C.IM is an independent, EU-hosted Mastodon server for open-minded, English-speaking users across the fediverse.

What is Mastodon?

Mastodon is a free, open-source, decentralized social network built on open web standards.

It’s part of the Fediverse — a network of interconnected servers that talk to each other using the ActivityPub protocol.

General Information

C.IM is a general-purpose Mastodon instance for English-speaking users across the globe.

It is independently operated by Owl Owl OÜ, a privacy-focused company based in the EU.

We fully support and comply with the Mastodon Server Covenant, and block certain instances to uphold its principles.

Our mission is to provide a long-term, stable, and respectful space for people to share ideas, creativity, and everyday life - with no ads, no tracking, and a strong commitment to user rights and decentralized values.

Content and Moderation Guidelines

These rules outline how we moderate content on C.IM.

They are not legal documents, but give transparency to our moderation policies. Final interpretation lies with the moderators.

⚠️ Content hidden from the public timeline:

• Excessive or repetitive advertising
  
• Uncurated bots posting automated news from third-party sources
  
• Nudity, pornography, or sexually explicit content that is not marked NSFW
  
• Gore or extremely graphic violence, including artistic depictions, that is not marked NSFW

🚫 Content subject to removal or suspension:

• Racism or advocacy of racism
  
• Sexism or advocacy of sexism
  
• Discrimination against gender, sexual, or ethnic minorities
  
• Caste-based discrimination or its promotion
  
• Xenophobic or violent nationalism
  
• Disinformation or conspiracy theories that harm public health

We encourage personal stories and discussion. But personal attacks or broad generalizations that demean others based on identity are not tolerated. Reference post by @fallingbeam

❌ Strictly prohibited content (will result in account termination):

• Any sexual depiction or suggestion involving minors
  
• Content illegal in the Netherlands (server jurisdiction) or the Isle of Man (domain registration), including Holocaust denial or Nazi symbols
  
• Support or promotion of National Socialism (Nazism)

🚫 Harassment and abuse

Any behavior meant to harass, stalk, dox, or degrade others — or to encourage others to do so — is prohibited. This includes:

• Repeatedly contacting someone after they have asked you to stop
  
• Publishing or sharing someone’s personal information without consent (doxxing)
  
• Encouraging others to target someone (brigading or dogpiling)

We reserve the right to remove any account at any time if a user violates these guidelines or disrupts the community.

Media Retention

• Local media (uploaded by C.IM users) is stored indefinitely, unless the user deletes it or it is removed for violating our rules.
• Remote media (from other federated servers) is cached for up to 90 days. It may be deleted earlier to save storage or comply with legal takedown requests.

Users may request deletion of their content or account at any time, and we will respond promptly in accordance with applicable EU data laws.

C.IM is independently operated by Owl Owl OÜ, and we welcome voluntary support from users who appreciate what we do.

There are no ads, tracking, or paywalls — and we intend to keep it that way.

Bot accounts are welcome on C.IM, but must follow these rules:

• The account must be clearly marked as a bot
  
• Bots must not generate excessive traffic or degrade the performance of our server or network

We reserve the right to limit or suspend any bot that causes service disruption or violates these guidelines.

Moderation

Content moderation on C.IM is based on evaluating user-generated content against our published rules.

We only moderate content posted on this instance. We cannot investigate or take action on content hosted on other servers.

If you encounter problematic content from a remote instance, we recommend contacting the moderators of that instance directly.

1. Respect the laws of the European Union, Estonia, the Netherlands, and the Isle of Man, including regulations related to hate speech, defamation, and other applicable legal standards.
2. Threatening, abusive, intolerant, or illegal behavior may result in moderation actions or further consequences. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. All moderation decisions are final.
3. The Content Warning (CW) flag must be used for NSFW content, and all NSFW media should be marked as sensitive.
4. Account registrations are monitored, and accounts deemed to be spam - including those used for commercial advertising, political campaigning or propaganda, duplicate registrations, or impersonation of legal entities - may be moderated or removed.
5. Harassment, bullying, or targeted abuse of other users is strictly prohibited.
6. Sharing illegal or copyrighted material without proper authorization is strictly prohibited.
7. Spamming, abuse, or any malicious behavior is strictly prohibited.
8. Be respectful and constructive in your interactions. Personal attacks and derogatory language will not be tolerated.
9. Do not share or disclose another person’s personal information without their explicit consent.
10. Content that may be distressing or sensitive should include clear tags and content warnings.
11. Reports of rule violations should be submitted to the moderation team for review.
12. You must be at least 18 years old to use our service.
