QWeb Ltd is an award winning web and game development agency in Yorkshire. Established February 2013, we've been lucky enough to have worked with some of the UK's biggest brands, as well as some of the loveliest independent business owners.

QWeb Community was set up as a place to give our clients and partners the opportunity to meet, socialise, and trade business. It's also our way of introducing people to the wider fediverse.

Crucially, this is where you'll always be able to reach out on the rare occasion our web and email hosting services might be disrupted. This instance is purposefully hosted outside of our normal infrastructure for redundancy. Follow or bookmark @qweb where we'll post important updates during service disruptions.

QWeb Community is a Mastodon server hosted on OVH infrastructure by Hugo at Masto.host and you can see current Masto.host infrastructure status here.

QWeb Ltd is a Rackspace partner and as such, our web and mail servers are hosted on Rackspace infrastructure. You can see current Rackspace infrastructure status here.

Mastodon

Mastodon is a little different to most of the other social networks that you might be familiar with. Here you get a local timeline (Live Feeds -> This Server) where you'll only see posts from other accounts on this server, a federated timeline (Live Feeds -> All) where you'll see posts from accounts on all sorts of other servers, and a home feed where you'll only see posts from the accounts that you choose to follow.

There are also lists of trending posts, hashtags, and accounts, and you can follow hashtags the same way you'd follow accounts, to pull tagged content into your home feed. With Mastodon, you're entirely in control of the content that you see in your feeds.

Federation is complicated because there are so very many Mastodon servers out there, but in a nutshell the more people there are on this server interacting with people on other servers, the more this server will see of the wider fediverse and be able to pull in to the federated timeline. We're running our very own Trunkbot to automatically find accounts on other servers but we're a comparatively tiny instance still and some of these feeds might look a little bare at the moment while we grow.

There are no platform ads here, and no algorithms. Just the content that you want to see, in chronological order.

As well as this web interface, you can also download official Mastodon apps for iOS or Android from the respective app stores, or one of the many other community developed apps. The apps are better than the web interface for some things, but significantly less feature-full.
